MEP: 2013 Overall Environment Quality is Stable

4 June, 2014, the MEP issued the 2013 State of Environment Report, stating that the overall environmental quality last year was average. As there was no serious degradation of the ecosystem, the overall ecological environment quality is stable.

At a broad level, the overall water quality of rivers improved whilst groundwater deteriorated. The headlines of the 2013 State of Environment Report are:

Key rivers basins

  • Grade I-III: 71.7%
  • Grade IV-V: 19.3%
  • Grade V+: 9.0%

Key lakes & reservoirs

  • Excellent & Good: 60.7%
  • Light pollution: 26.2%
  • Medium pollution: 1.6%
  • Heavy pollution: 11.5%

Groundwater

  • Excellent: 10.40%
  • Good: 26.90%
  • Satisfactory: 3.10%
  • Bad: 43.90%
  • Very bad: 15.70%

On the same day, the MEP launched ad campaign for the “World Environment Day” encouraging the public to act together for a better environment.

The theme is “Declare War on Pollution”;  the 4 posters cover “declare war”, “air”, “water” & “soil”.
