hackUST 2022
April 7 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

hackUST is an annual hackathon at HKUST since 2014 which aims at cultivating student innovation and entrepreneurship through providing a platform for both technical and non-technical students with a like-minded interest to tackle problems with creative ideas and solutions.
This year, hackUST 2022, powered by Nan Fung Group, is calling for hackers with the most creative idea to tackle the societal challenges of this year.
CWR will deliver a workshop session (below for the details) for the participating students as a supporting organisation of hackUST 2022.
Workshop: Hacking better habits for a better planet
Date: Tuesday 5th April, 2022
Time: 3:00pm – 4:00 pm HKT
Access: HackUST 2022 Participants
Many of us want to do something about climate change but don’t know where to start or feel disempowered as we believe our actions are insignificant. But small changes can make a big difference. Did you know that if enough of us made simple habit tweaks across just eight areas of our daily life from food, online shopping to internet surfing plus more, we could save more than two billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions? This is equivalent to the combined 2015 GHG emissions of Japan and South Korea!
The power of one is strong, but the power of a group is stronger; and tech is a powerful catalyst critical to realising collective action: How can tech/apps be used to gamify habit changes to synergise collective savings for a greener society and better planet? Can we use tech to improve emissions across these eight areas? What about harnessing social media to spread the word around the world of these simple actions?
Start innovating now with CWR in this workshop and explore how to leverage simple actions that can lead to greener lifestyles and a healthier planet. The 2022 IPCC report paints a bleak future if we do nothing – large parts of Hong Kong submerged by rising seas in your lifetimes cannot be ruled out. Time is running short, but it has not run out … so don’t wait, YOUR technical solution can make a difference … together we can hack better habits for a better planet.
