Water-related Investment Risks Through Systems Thinking with Systems Innovation

Dawn McGregor will be speaking at “Exploring Complex & Interconnected Water-related Investment Risks Through Systems Thinking with Systems Innovation” organized by Singapore Hub & Salmon Thrust. 

Water is a critical resource for many industries, and its scarcity, pollution, and mismanagement can have significant impacts on companies’ financial performance and shareholder value. Investors need to be aware of these risks and factor them into their investment decisions.

In this session, we will hear from an expert on water-related investment risks and will examine how systems thinking can be used by investors to gain a deeper understanding of the complex and interconnected risks related to water management and how this approach can help to identify potential solutions to mitigate those risks.

We will be building basic Causal Loop Diagrams (CLD), using them as a tool to visualise and analyse the complex relationships and feedback loops between different components of a system, including water-related risks.

By using CLDs, we will identify the causal relationships between different variables and understand how changes in one variable can impact others in the finance system and beyond.

CLDs are a powerful tool that can help identify potential leverage points in the system where we can take action to mitigate risks and to identify potential unintended consequences of our actions, leading to more informed and effective investment decisions that promote sustainability and social responsibility.

Just how pervasive and important is water and the water related-risks we are likely to face in the short, medium and long term for industry, business and investing?

It impacts everyone and the more you have invested, the likely more you are to be impacted!

The implications are far, wide and deep reaching, understanding just how so is imperative to finding ways to avoid, mitigate or plan for this.

To get a better understanding we are excited to introduce our subject matter expert Dawn McGregor for our upcoming session from the think tank – CWR (China Water Risk).

In this session, Dawn will give an overview of the water-system and just how it is connected to just about every other system (natural and human-made) and what some of the ramifications are likely to be depending on the timeframe.

She will also give examples from some water intensive industries and a picture of the impacts of water-related risk.
