IFC Climate Business Forum 2014
28 October, 2014 - 29 October, 2014
By invitation only
Climate change is transforming the global economy. This transformation is compounded by other dynamics including population growth, urbanization, changing energy needs, modernization of industry and increasingly apparent environmental degradation. While public policy changes are important, the private sector will play a critical role in tackling and adapting to climate change. The UN estimates that 80% of the investment needed to address climate change will come from the private sector. This creates opportunity for companies providing climate change solutions and for investors and financiers funding the climate business sector.
The Climate Business Forum 2014 is an invite-only forum, bringing together high-level participants from investment, finance, policy, business and development to explore and identify opportunities for investment and growth related to climate business.
The Forum will bring together respected individuals and organizations from around the world to assist investors in identifying opportunities in key sectors including green energy, clean technology, resource efficiency and water. Seasoned investors and experts will share insights and lessons learned, and policy-makers will explain how they are creating an incentivizing regulatory environment for sustainable businesses and investment.
The Forum is hosted by the IFC and organized by the Association for Sustainable and Responsible Investment in Asia (ASrIA), in conjunction with the Asia Investor Group on Climate Change (AIGCC), an ASrIA Initiative.
The two-day agenda will include contributions from high-level representatives of international bodies, governments, private financial institutions, companies and leading climate change groups. The agenda will focus on exploring climate related risk and investment opportunities both globally and in the region, and examine ways in which to scale up investment in climate businesses. There will be a strong emphasis on the practical benefits of climate analysis, collaboration and engagement.
With the exception of the keynote and data presentation sessions, plenary and breakout sessions will be in a panel format, discussion-only, without formal presentations. The moderator will introduce all the speakers at the beginning of the session, then ask a different question to each of the panelists. Each panelist can use this question for some brief initial comments, which should take no longer than 3 minutes. The goal is to keep the discussion flowing, opening to questions from the floor once all panelists have had the chance to comment on the various issues that have been raised.
